Remarks: Very Fine (169 KPSI) ,circa 1930’s Village rug from the Malayer/ Hosseinabad, Hamadan Region. Hamadan is a city situated in the western part of Iran,180 miles west of Teheran. It is one of the worlds oldest cities and is mentioned under the name of Ekbatana in the Bible, see the book of Esther.The city is a center for trading with carpets that are hand-knotted from hundreds of nearby villages and cities. The best of these carpets are sold under their own village names such as Nahavand, Tuiserkan, Malayer, Enjelis, Hosseinabad, Zanzan, Borchalu,, and other villages..
This piece is hand-knotted with naturally derived dyes of madder red, bergamot mustard green, blues, clean whites, tangerines, sand, and other colors. The pattern is a medallion with a quaeter of the medallion in each corner or spandrel. The overall herati (swimming fish) design covers the field with with a lattice overlay which separates the herti designtangerine and madder red. into equa distanced diamonds that can be seen from a perspective. The colors are dominated by different nuances of indigo blue, greens, and madder red. The carpets are manufactured with roppy, shiny and natural dyed handspun yarn, that provides a very durable surface and beautiful color scale. There are No synthetic colors and the wool is of the highest quality. The most common sizes are dozar and zaronim (approximately 200 x 120 cm and 150 x 100 cm).
